That's too bad Jared. You're missing out on some good music. And I mean, they could have named their band after a comic book reference or something.

Just sayin...

1. The band is called fucking ALCOHAWK.
2. The band is pretty fucking awesome.
3. I giggled when I read the word "splifteen."
4. Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Thanks guys. I'm glad you all enjoy the music.

Jared, I understand that the obvious w33d reference is silly and can be alienating, but we're just trying to make self-deprecating and blatant wordplay to put a smile on listeners faces. it's all for the entertainment baby. Different 'tudes for different dudes, your opinion on this matter does not affect your standing as a solid dude in my mind.

One love.

jared, i totally get what you're saying. if you knew any of us better, you would realize that we are far from serious.

ironically, the idea to call it Splifteen was cullens idea. someone who doesn't smoke weed. plus, the demo is fifteen minutes long (which you never would have found out, since you aren't giving it a chance).
and honestly, if our name or song titles or release titles bother someone to that extreme, i kinda feel glad they aren't listening to our music.

but yeah, listen or don't. i really don't care at all. i know you're a nice dude. if you really feel strongly, stand up for that. no worries on my behalf.

and yeah, i do like boobs. more of an assman though.

I must be ridiculously out of the loop, because I can't even begin to guess how Splifteen is a weed reference.

I wish I could have made it to the show last night. I finally checked Alcohawk out a few days ago and I enjoyed it very much.

i feel like i've woken up to a more mature message board in some twilight zone. except that the maturity is in response to a band named alcohawk and their weed references...so it's even more bizarre.

hugs all around, or piss on cullen all around - whatever works! picked up the demo last night and excited to listen guys!

let me explain a little further. first off, i don't want you thinking that i'm sitting in my basment shaking my fists at you "damn you alcohawk." i'm just saying that since i have never heard you guys before. the whole splifteen minutes thing didn't win you any points on it's own. the whole "i will not be giving your demo a chance" thing was a bit harsh. and not entirely true. what i was thinking and kinda meant was, i'm not gonna go out of my way to listen to you guys base solely on what you present. however doug and conner's thoughts on the subject have encouraged me to give the myspace a listen. it's good.
You cannot escape me! Lead me into a trap and I'll pile the heads of your kinsmen at your feet! Hide from me and I'll tear apart the mountains to find you! I'll follow you to hell.

where i draw the line is the blatant versus the subtle. the nature of a comic book reference, i think, is subtle just by being a comic book reference. very few people are going to say "hey i know this band's name."
to the average person (not just the uninitiated) nothing is automatically implied. nothing about who i or my band is/are as people. honestly though, comic book enthusiast and their culture aren't even a tenth as annoying as stoners and the stoner culture.
there is a question of exposure too. we have been hearing weed jokes/references for as long as i have been alive. it's a tired subject anymore. i see a huge difference between comic book reference and weed culture reference.

i honestly thought it was pretty subtle, as far as weed references.

josh, its like a Splif, aka joint. although sometimes splif refers to a mix between tobacco and weed.

jared, if there is one thing we aren't concerned about, its trying to get people to listen to us based on our names or themes or whatever. i wasn't at the show last night wondering if i was offending anybody or boring someone with weed jokes. i pointed out the Splif(teen) earlier because i had forgotten to thank matt and was impling that i had done so because of weed (it causes some short term memory loss fyi).

all in all, thanks for listening to our music, we appreciate that very much. one thing you should know about our band is that we just say shit like Splifteen because we think its funny. and as long as me and my four bandmates/best friends get to laugh while playing music we really love, i'm happy.

I just wanted you to give it a chance Jared, I get what you're saying, although I think any kind of blatant reference is all just a matter of perspective in whether you like it or not. I kind of agree it's a silly name for a demo...but...it's supposed to be silly, and it's a demo...so just listen to it and enjoy. We can critique their marketing on the full length or something.

I sincerely doubt the full length will have a serious name either.

As someone who thinks weed is dumb, I thought the name was hilarious and look forward to a full length.

I just got a chance to listen to the demo. It's really fucking good. Graham Cried At The End of King Kong is a rad song.

I think the name of the full-length is obvious.

"Legalize It".
