I disagree, Rob, especially with the type of fest that he is proposing. He wants more local bands. What could be easier than to throw together an all-day fest with nothing but local bands?

I bet less than 150 people would come out to an all local fest. And most wouldn't stay for all the bands.

Surely, South By Southend has had a lot more than that?
I'd hope so at least.

I did not "propose a fest". I offered up my viewpoint, and now I'm watching it get ran with and taken much further than anything I intended. This is why I hate these forums. You guys spend way too much time running around with assumptions. I really don't want to write out a huge novel explaining exactly where I am coming from so it can be taken apart, thrown out of context, and ultimately turned around on me. I know how you vultures work! :p

You can cut all the "put up or shut up" shit out, I already said from the very start I do not have what is necessary to set up a fest in any way currently. I'm pretty busy as it is without having to deal with all of that. My first post, which was quoted, was not appropriate, and I will apologize to anyone who was riled up by it. It was a very shitty way of paraphrasing the larger viewpoint that I have.

I've stated several times I'm not going to debate this on these forums. If you are that interested in what I have to say, you can contact me directly and we can discuss it.

Metal Fest does better than that, and I doubt you guys even know about that one.

yeah, my apologies Doug. I just realized that I don't actually care enough to have a discussion about this.

I can't wait for Doug's fest. I just saw the web site for it and the line-up looks promising.

I actually have nothing to do with this, but I can understand your mistake.

SxSE drew maybe...100? I went for Mini Marilyn Manson and Lords and the turnout seemed really small. It didn't help that Expo 5 is huuuuuuge for a show like that.

It didn't look too packed at the pics I just went back and looked at, but I also didn't go last year so it's not a firsthand assessment. ~250-300 people? More?

I would say so yes. The bulk of the crowd wasn't by the stage, but in the campgrounds around it. Lots of people cooking out/smoking out/chilling out. That's kind of different though, since that fest is pretty much 100% local bands. The whole fest is an american cancer society benefit show. I don't think out of town bands would want to come in to play for free, good cause or not.

Bands come from out of town to play Plan-It X Fest for basically free. That shit has to beat people off with a stick, too.

Both Gary and Mike from Fudgenuckle invited me last year but I didn't drive out. Maybe I'll go this year. I had no idea it was a benefit event.

I think Doug was referring to bands that people our age have actually heard of.....not exactly sure why this thread is still going...but heres my attempt to end it...support local music..smoke weed..drink beer and stop being so fucking ass hurt if somebody has a difference of opinion about a fest...geezus

You should come Bryan...its an awesome time and yes Allan started this thing 3-4 years ago after loosing his best friend to cancer and dedicates a huge amount of time and effort to put on one hell of a backwoods party :D

Be sure and show up Saturday, July 23.

Bush League goes on at 4:30pm.
After we play, there are still 14 bands.
Old Vikings are going on at 9:30pm.

That's the closest you're gonna get to a bona fide "Doug Fest" this year.
