Brr arrested

Post by Jamie Miller » Thu Aug 08, 2013 2:36 pm

Although a major dick move, I got to give the owner of Regalo some credit for thinking of a clever way to get Brrrr's attention, thus stiring him up and leading to his arrest.

I think it was clever, and I wouldn't even consider the making/selling of the shirts to be a dick move. If dude wants to make forcibly public art, he's got to be okay with it belonging to the public, including people who want to sell it.

A shortened version of the WDRB story from last night/this morning with a portion of Damon's interview accusing Regalo of taking one of his designs without permission for a shirt as well. That part didn't make this cut unfortunately.

WFPL has run a new article after (apparently) talking to someone well versed in copyright law (well done WFPL):

What a fuckin' tard. Dude, Basquiat and Haring were dead when you were still crapping diapers. And they lived in a real city. Grow up and be a real artist. Make your own fucking t-shirts! This is so hilarious. Especially when the opinions of Intellectual Property Rights lawyers were sought. Cry baby, cry, make your mother sad, you're old enough to know better, so cry baby, cry.

What a fucking loser. Wish I would have thought to cash in on his designs first.

Let me clarify my remarks, since my words seem to be often misinterpreted. Despite its faults, I love my little River City. Back in the day, I certainly tried to improve it with my finger on the nozzle of a can of spray paint. I spent five years living in NYC at the end of the golden era, when the MTA began replacing the beautiful subway car canvases with resistant carriages. I rode the trains all the time because of my occupations, always with an inch wide permanent marker in my pocket, the better to comment on the advertising placards. I took particular delight in defacing Keith Haring's "work" because I thought--and still do--that it was lame and totally sucky.

I am a huge Banksy fan.

My point is that I make a huge distinction between graffiti art, and jack-off tagging.

It's not too late. Dude can't smash up an Etsy store unless he's good at backtracing and internet policework.
