Hey Cahoots. Either get serious or stop.

us vs. us

Should Cahoots tear down the kitchen and get serious about the music?

Yes. Tear down the kitchen and make it a real venue.

Hey Cahoots. Either get serious or stop.

Post by quasar » Sun Jan 13, 2008 11:06 pm

I have been seeing a lot of flyers for this live music revival at Cahoots thing and it has got me wondering just how serious they are about putting on shows. Is this a temporary thing because they are not making enough money or are they still going to shove around the pool tables and make what was once the best venue in the city seem like a show in someone's basement? I say tear down the kitchen and get serious or go back to slinging fries and pickle backs and stop teasing everyone. It's a shit or get off the pot kinda thing. Thoughts? Opinions?

There was a kitchen there at one point while it was Tewligans. It was called like the Lava Cafe and served Vegi food.
I bet they could find a way to have a limited food offering (most people when hungry at 2:00 am even sober are not too picky.)

Close the kitchen, build a stage.

fuck punk rock...cahoots fries are more important.

in all seriousness, it would be awesome if they could somehow manage both, although i don't see how. having a legit bar loosely affiliated with punk rock in louisville would be fucking awesome. not to mention it would make the place a viable alternative to the nachbar, which has stolen most of their business...

I think it should stay a bar that has occasional show so it can stay open. that is the motivation behind it all ....to make money. that is why they only host shows that will draw a lotta people..... and so far... it looks like they are accomplishing this. Like chris said earlier on this board...the SOLE motivation behind this is to bring in people...the owner could give a fuck less about supporting the scene....or music or bands. No venue that exists to host shows will survive.

i do know that the owner, Marsha, is as oldschool as it gets in this town. she has a general interest and history in the local punk scene.

Eh, it'd be cool if they made all the show stuff a little more permanent, but I'm okay with it if they don't. I also would rather it just stay open and have some kinda awkward shows than put a bunch of money into making it more of a music venue and then close 5 months later.

I can't imagine you'll ever see a bigger show at Cahoots than that, so I say leave it be.

im not saying that she isnt doing it to bring in more money for the business... but she shouldnt be discounted as somebody that merely wants to cash in on the scene.

The kitchen isn't going anywhere...that's already been discussed, the pool tables might be though.

People have been trying to talk Marsha into doing shows as long as she's owned the bar, she was never interested until the smoking ban and the following slump in buisness.

She has said that if shows continue to do well (as the have) that she would consider loosing the pool tables, building a stage and buying a real P.A. The kitchen can't go because they have to have the food sales...I think its something do do with the kind of liquor license they have. If a stage is built it will most likely be on the side where the bands have been setting up now.

I don't get the need for a stage. I also don't get why they have to quit if shows continue as they are now? This whole poll kind of confuses me. Isn't a venue better than no venue at all?

Not only that but I personally see a huge opportunity being half assed. No offense to those involved because I am grateful for all efforts to showcase music in all forms at all places but this place in particular has so much opportunity that I personally want to see it done to the fullest extent to which it can. Put a little bit of money and innovation behind it and you could have something spectacular. Better than it once was. But yes, a big part of this poll was due to the history of the space. Maybe it's my pride getting stoked a bit but that's only because I remember what was when it was and HATED to see it go only to return in this form.

You wouldn't need much more of a PA than what they're using now, but a stage, even a short one they could put tables on when there were no shows, would be an improvement, I think. This hasn't been a problem for me really, but I've heard some complaints about visibility from some shorter types. The room still sounds awesome.

you know. really someone could just wait until they go out of buisness (blaming the smoking ban instead of the noch bar) and turn it into an all ages non/alcohol serving venue.
