The full Thomas Frank article in the WSJ. Apparently he's going to start writing a weekly column for them. That seems kind of odd.

One of my favorite running subplots of this campaign is Condi Rice angling for McCain's VP. The internets' response to it is gold. Read around -- many McCain supporters think this is a great idea and that such a ticket would take much of the "black vote" and even the "woman vote" from Obama. It's so hilariously out-of-touch and condescending. It's like they don't know that, like everyone else, black people hate Condoleezza Rice. McCain/Rice would be the losingest ticket since McGovern.

I have a few black (and white) students that admire her.

She has the highest approval ratings in the Bush administration, that's true. They're not high, by any means, but they're higher than one would think from a Secretary of State in this administration. But I can't imagine that she'd take very much away from Obama's black vote or the Democrats' base of women while at once turning away some foreign policy moderates and some *ordinary Americans* in the South (who might sit out of a race with black candidates on both sides and no evangelicals) from McCain.

I'd love to see her run as VP. It'd be a death sentence for his campaign. And I agree, the stuff I've read about her joining the ticket is extremely condescending. It's like when racists pull out the old, "Well, Bill Cosby said it too!" thing.

Looks like no one here is switching over to McCain. Not that I expected anyone to, but I think the media is just making up all this crossing over party lines talk.

Well, the third party/not voting period could be a favorable outcome for John McCain. I don't begrudge anyone for doing it, though. Not a choice I would make or agree with, but very little pisses me off more than the notion that people owe it to (party) to vote for (candidate) even if (candidate) strikes the voter to be unimpressive/unacceptable.

I voted for John Kerry in the last election and regret it on a daily basis. What a shitheel. He voted for most of the things that Bush put through and then played the same card Clinton plays about how they were fooled or some such.

Bullshit. Didn't these assholes go to Yale or Harvard? I went to North Bullit High School and I figured out that the war was/is entirely built on farts.

I'm definitely in Obama's camp. At least that guy vote with his conscience.
